Excerpt from report by Malagasy television on 25 June
[Presenter] A Chinese delegation has been in Madagascar for the past few days. One the reasons for the visit is to join the Malagasy people in celebrating Madagascar's 45th anniversary of independence, but also to reinforce the partnership between Madagascar and China, in the sectors of trade and diplomacy.
The delegation was this morning received by Prime Minister Jacques Sylla. [Passage omitted]
[Reporter] The delegation was led by the assistant foreign minister of the People's Republic of China, Lu Guozeng. The meeting with Prime Jacques Sylla focused on issues of common interest between north and south.
Madagascar is honoured by the visit, Prime Minister Jacques Sylla said, especially on the occasion of the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the independence.
[Guozeng] We took stock of the bilateral relations between our two countries, our two governments. I take this opportunity to, once again, reiterate the position taken by the Chinese government to continue assisting the Malagasy people in their efforts to rebuild their country, and develop its economy.
We, together with the Malagasy government, share the same opinion regarding common international issues and we highly appreciate Malagasy government and leaders in supporting the one China policy. [passage omitted]
I am here on a rather short working visit , however, I am really happy to have the occasion to take part in the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of independence of Madagascar, with the Malagasy people. I would like to congratulate them on this occasion.
